WHERE: All around! Mostly at the school, since it is a school festival!

No matter where it is you woke up, if it's near buildings the sounds of merriment are all around. The shouts of people rooting for the winner of a game, students trying to pull in attention for their booths, adults laughing as they trip over themselves during a sport or someone screaming at the haunted house...

It's then that you realize you're at some kind of festival, everyone's invited, and no one seems to be bothering with money.

Then the realization that you're not even in your clothes. What the hell is this outfit? A school uniform? A janitor? A store clerk? Waitress?

No, no, the bigger question is deinitely "What the hell is going on and where am I?" With nothing but forest and mountains visible in the distance, it's kind of--

Probably. I'd assume it's just for the day, so... but I'm not sure how comfortable I am with waiting even that long to figure this out.

Seems normal, but it's still abnormal for this place. So I'm not sure how normal it actually it is, you know?

Wait, what? [...Wait, no, that makes sense.] ...er... Yeah, actually. That's a good way to put it.

So exactly how normal is this place, well... normally?

Well... I'm not really sure where to start. What has Yuri already told you?

We're dead, dying while dead is largely ineffective, the School Council President is some kind of Angel who attacks using some kind of light blade... And she really wants to take on god somehow.

[brotonashi]

She's not an angel... [He mumbles. Sigh. Guess he didn't speak with Yuri until after she spoke with Kyon.]

Right. Well, that's basically the gist of it, really. The students at the school are just NPCs, and they act just like regular high school students, aside from the lack of festivals and parties.

Ah yeah, she mentioned the NPCs too.

... Not an angel? So what, is she an alien or something then?

[He shakes his head.] No, she's a normal girl just like the rest of us. [...er, okay he and Kyon aren't girls, but..] ...Er.. you know what I mean.

What about the magic blades and stuff then?

Thaaat has to do with some... computer program she has, which she used to program that stuff in. It's kind of hard to explain, and I don't really get it myself, but...

[brotonashi]

Yeah. Something called Angel Player. Yuri probably knows more about it than I do though.

"Angel Player"? Sounds like the kind of name you'd give one of those idol groups, like Morning Musume or AKB48 or something.

[brotonashi]

[He laughs a bit.] Haha, yeah. Thinking about it now, it kind of does. But no, it's just a computer program. Or... something like one, anyway. [Since it's able to alter Kanade's abilities and such...]

(Maybe aliens made it then, aliens could totally bend reality with computer programs, right? ... Why am I so sure of this idea of aliens anyway?)
