WHAT: School Festival / Arriving in the Afterlife!
WHEN: 9/30/2012. Morning through evening.
WHERE: All around! Mostly at the school, since it is a school festival!
WARNINGS: Potential violence, but since everyone's already dead it's not like it matters, BUT FOR THE MOST PART HUNKY DORY PG! So PG+V? That works.

No matter where it is you woke up, if it's near buildings the sounds of merriment are all around. The shouts of people rooting for the winner of a game, students trying to pull in attention for their booths, adults laughing as they trip over themselves during a sport or someone screaming at the haunted house...

It's then that you realize you're at some kind of festival, everyone's invited, and no one seems to be bothering with money.

Then the realization that you're not even in your clothes. What the hell is this outfit? A school uniform? A janitor? A store clerk? Waitress?

No, no, the bigger question is deinitely "What the hell is going on and where am I?" With nothing but forest and mountains visible in the distance, it's kind of--

[ izumo has a "no losing" policy, so of course ] Hah, that's easy. They're right over there. [ points to a vague direction behind him. ]

It's not that hard. I mean. they're the dorms. How could you miss them?

[ she walks aheard of him, but she's already unsure if this is the right path. oh well, whatever. she'll just walk around in circles until she finds it... ]

[loserthug]

[ His eyes just followed her finger as she pointed, and then turned to follow her as she went on ahead of him. He could tell, it was almost too obvious. She was just as lost as he was. He rubbed the back of his head, and with a sigh, began to walk after her. She didn't really have to take him there, but, eh. Whatever. ]

Sorry I don't know this place as well as you, milady. [ He said in a slightly sarcastic tone. ] You should forgive me, I only just came here today.

[marumayu]

[ She ignores his sarcasm, but that last bit makes her think. Him, too? That Riki guy did say he suddenly appeared in this world, too. ]

So we all arrived at the same time, huh. I wonder if there are more of us.

[loserthug]

[ ...So she wasn't native to this place either? He figured as much, she was way more expressive than the other students, but he couldn't be quite sure. ]

I've already run into another guy. [ He looked at her. ] Apparently...[ He didn't want to admit it but...it made too much since. Think of this as purgatory, and accept it. ]

We're dead.

[marumayu]

[ She stops in her tracks. ] I know.

[ Izumo looks as if she is standing still, but her fists are shaking. She didn't want to admit nor hear the truth. ]

So don't say it.

[loserthug]

[ She knew? ...Well, guess it wouldn't be too hard if she was the same as him. He still remembered everything. It was burned into the back of his mind. He didn't say anything, though, and just kept walking, passing her. ]

Didn't expect a place like this, though.

[marumayu]

[ She can't believe how easy it is for him to get over that one fact. Maybe he's hiding it? She catches up with him and tries to do the same. ]

What were you waiting for, then? Saint Peter standing next to those pearly white gates?

[ Or Satan welcoming you to the depths of Gehenna? But she doesn't want to ask that out loud. ]

I don't know. [ He thought for a second... ] Maybe like...at least some kind of angel or grim reaper telling you your time was up. You know, like they do in all the stories. [ He still couldn't decide if this place was supposed to be heaven, or hell. Or maybe... ]

...You believe in Purgatory?

[marumayu]

[ She shrugs. ] But this place doesn't look anything like heaven or hell, so...

I mean, I don't feel happy or anything.

[loserthug]

[ Right. But...they weren't in pain. So...it couldn't be heaven or hell. ]

So Purgatory fits best, don't you think? [ ...Though, even the idea of that, seemed stupid. Really stupid. What was the point? Why would he get thrown here, especially after dying like that? He scoffed, his tone growing harsher. ]

Guess some smartass thought we didn't do a good enough job.

[marumayu]

[ mutters ] I didn't even get to do anything yet.

Fifteen is barely a good age to judge how much a person's life is worth. But... this is really the end for us.

Somehow, it doesn't feel right.

[loserthug]

...I got three years on you. Eighteen for me. [ She still had a point, though...it didn't make any sense. Not...that really believed in anything way. But even if he didn't have anything to expect...she was right, this didn't feel right. He stopped walking. ]

I'm gonna guess you were religious or something, huh?

[marumayu]

Let's just say I've had a lot of experience with things that aren't of this world. I am from a long line of shrine maidens. [ and proud of it. she stopped walking as soon as he did. ]

... What about you?

[loserthug]

[ A shrine maiden, huh? Yeah, his guess was on the right track. Of course she'd feel like this whole thing was wrong. However, when she directed the question right back at him, he hesitated. Not because of what he was, but...

The memory was still all too vivid. He caught himself, turning to answer her. ]

...I was a knight. That's all. I didn't do anything religious, didn't need to.

[marumayu]

[ Her understanding of a knight is different from his. Knights were a certain class of her own kind - that is, ]

Were you... were you an exorcist?

[loserthug]

[ A...what? He gave her a weird look, a mix of sort of surprise and annoyance. Did it sound like he said that? ]

I said I was a knight. I don't believe in spirits or ghosts or whatever. [ He sighed. ] Those things don't even have anything to do with each other--well, I guess I fought monsters.

[marumayu]

A knight is an exorcist, you moron. [ Duh, Yuri, get it right. ] And those monsters were most likely demons.

[ He can't mean the sort of knights that served their lords, right? That's so 12th century. ]

[loserthug]

[ Was this girl listening to a thing he was saying? ]

No. Just a knight. No exorcism. Just armor. Serving the empire. That kind of stuff. [ He sighed. ] You don't have that stuff wherever you're from, huh?

[marumayu]

[ Okay, she snorted at "serving the empire". ]

No, empires don't exist anymore. [ Izumo is looking at him and trying to imagine him in bulky armor. It's not helping - the whole idea amuses her. ]

[loserthug]

[ ...Anymore? Well, he was right that she obviously didn't have them wherever she came from. ]

...You mean they're gone for you? [ Jeez, what kind of place is this? It was the after life, right? But every time he talked to someone, they always described a home that sounded nothing like where he lived... ] So we come from different times. Maybe even different planets, huh...

[marumayu]

[ Back to frowning. ]

Before you say anything, I'm not an alien. [ Just because she has weird eyebrows doesn't mean she's not human! ]

[loserthug]

Wasn't gonna say that. [ Though that was kind of what he implied with his words, huh? ]

...Either way, it doesn't matter. We're stuck here. I've tried leaving before. It's just had me going in circles.

[marumayu]

You've got to be kidding.

[ Maybe it's a demon, she almost says, but then she remembers she's already dead.

Possibly dead?

She doesn't remember the details too well, but that memory of falling really stands out for her. ]

Then what are we supposed to do? Stay here until we rot? [ Wait, they can't do that. ] Ah. Well, if this isn't heaven, there has to be a way there from here. Common sense.

[ She turns around and starts walking back to the school. Weren't they looking for the dorms, though... ]

[loserthug]

[ Don't look at him like he's behind all of this...before he can even get another word out, she's already turning back to the school. He was going to say something about the dorms but...whatever. He didn't care either. With no where else to go, he just followed behind her. ]

This is assuming heaven and hell even exist. For all we know, this is it.

[marumayu]

[ She instantly - and rather harshly - replies, ] I told you, I can't accept that.

[ And she never will. ]

It's getting late, so I'll look for the end of the barrier tomorrow.
